Ethiopian Medical Association is delighted to welcome you to the 55th annual medical conference and international health exhibition that takes place from February 22 – 24, 2019. This annual event will Convene more than 3000 attendance from all around the world; with the theme of “Reaching out for Universal Health Coverage: The Ethiopian Perspective”.

This year's event  would not only bring together the national and international players of the health sector, researchers, and other stake holders at a common platform but also would provide a unique opportunity to the policy makers to appreciate on the current situation.

The success of this event depends ultimately on the many people who are working with us and we are very grateful.

Ethiopian Medical Association (EMA) is delighted to announce the 4TH Edition of EMA-Run in line with its 55th Annual Medical Conference and International Health and wellness exhibition.

The EMA-RUN that is to take place on 24th of February 2019 calls people of ages from 15 to 70.

It is a 5km race through the main streets of Addis Ababa located at 10,000 feet above sea level with the motto “Run for wellness”.

EMA is therefore excited about the opportunity to increase awareness of physical activity is the best way to receive the health benefits.

This year’s EMA-RUN is expected to attract well over 5000 participants and enjoy a perfect running path that is safe and accommodating!

Scholarships from Orange Knowledge Programme to study at KIT Royal Tropical Institute

Scholarships Orange Knowledge Programme
Upcoming application period: Winter 2019

The Orange Knowledge Programme (OKP) is a 5-year programme that aims to advance the capacity, knowledge and quality of both individuals and institutions of higher and vocational education. Talented health professionals from 52 eligible OKP countries can apply for a full scholarship to study a Mastersprogramme or advanced course at KIT.

List courses OKP application period winter 2019:
For the following programmes there are scholarships available from the Orange Knowledge Programme (OKP). Follow the links below for more information on each course and apply directly to your course of choice through our online application system. You have to apply separately for the OKP scholarship.

Application deadlines Orange Knowledge Programme Scholarship
If you want to apply for a scholarship from the Orange Knowledge Programme, make sure you first apply for academic admission to KIT. 
  • Deadline KIT Royal Tropical Institute for academic admission (if applying for OKP): as soon as possible but at the latest by 25 February 2019
  • Registration period OKP: Exact date to be announced, but probably February-March 2019. Keep an eye on our website for updates.
Attention: the list of eligible countries for OKP is different from the list of former NFP countries. If you are a health professional from one of the  52 eligible OKP countries we strongly encourage you to apply for an OKP scholarship!

   Other upcoming Masters Programmes in 2019

Our master’s programmes are an opportunity for health and development professionals to further develop your competencies in specific areas related to global health. 
  • Master in International Health (MIH)
    Course dates: start dates 4 March 2019 or 9 September 2019. Fulltime or part-time option possible (1 up to 5 years)
    The aim of the MIH is to develop the capacity of health professionals working at the interface of international organisations and national health systems.
  • Netherlands Course in Global Health and Tropical Medicine (NTC) (core course MIH or stand-alone course,)
    Course dates: 4 March - 7 June 2019 or 9 September-13 December 2019 (given twice a year)
    This course provides essential preparation for health professionals such as medical doctors, nurses and midwives planning to work in low and middle income countries.
  • Core course Public Health
    Course dates: 23 September - 13 December 2019
    This 3 months course prepares health managers to use a public health approach to address the problems in their country, taking into account epidemiology, health system aspects and broader social determinants of health. 
  • NEW Part-time Master of Public Health 
    If you cannot leave your home/job for one year full-time it is now possible to follow the MPH programme in parts, studying it divided over 2-3 years.

Courses on Health Systems Strengthening
  • Human Resources for Health
    Course dates: 25 February - 8 March 2019
    This course provides knowledge and skills that health care managers, policy makers and planners need for human resource management. It discusses strategies at country and workplace level to address health workforce issues.
  • Health Policy and Financing
    Course dates: 20 May - 07 June 2019
    An in-depth look at important issues and current debates in health policy, health economics and health financing, taking into account the diverse profit and not for profit systems.
  • (E-learning) Rebuilding Disrupted Health Systems - developing context-specific strategies for health care policies, implementation and governance
    Course dates: 1 April - 21 June 2019.
Courses on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights, and HIV and AIDS Courses on Disease Management
WHO Collaborating Centre
The World Health Organisation (WHO) has designated KIT Health as WHO Collaborating Centre for Human Resources for Health and for Health Systems in Fragile and Conflict affected contexts.
